One of the interesting groups we met on the Breathe Premiere Tour were representatives to the brand new search engine called Growyn, a 100% non-profit organization that donates all of the profits it receives from advertising on the site to Ecological projects. Similar in all ways, although in it's early stages of development, to the search giants Google, MSN and Yahoo, the main difference of Growyn is it's commitment to use the everyday need of internet searches and funnel this revenue into direct action projects creating a consumer option to third party contribute to different causes simply by their usual daily habits and their need to access web based information. We are so impressed, we are recommending it as our recogmnetded search engine.
Growyn is an eco-friendly search engine, promoting environmental awareness and funding community level sustainability projects.
What is Growyn? Growyn is a search engine just like Google, MSN and Yahoo! but with one big difference - we donate all our profit to support the environment. We believe that everyone wants to contribute to a sustainable future but for most of us, daily routines come in the way of a proactive commitment. Donating money to organisations is another way of helping but most of us don't have a lot left over from our private finances. Growyn enables you to contribute to environmental causes by simply using the search engine - no strings, additional effort, or work attached.
How does Growyn raise money? Every time you search the web through Growyn, money is generated via the advertising index placed on the site that operates exactly the same as the other major search engines, the main difference is as Growyn is a non-profit organization, 100% of revenue is invested into our projects.
What can I do to help? Use Growyn as much as you can and spread the word to everyone you know! The more people searching on our site the more money we generate.
Here are a few things you can easily do:
What is Growyn? Growyn is a search engine that donates all profits to environmental causes.
Who is behind Growyn? Growyn was founded in 2008 by Kurdi Rad and David Johansson, two young entrepreneurs with a solid commitment to the environment.
How does the search engine growyn.com generate revenues? Revenues come from sponsored links, according to the same business model used by other search engines, such as Google, Yahoo and MSN.
What are sponsored links? A sponsored link is a paid advertisement that shows up when certain searches are made on growyn.com.
What is the turnover of the search engine industry? There is no easy way of working out the turnover of the sector, as the largest players on the market, Google, Yahoo and MSN, do not report their turnover in Sweden. Growyn’s figures are based on statistics from IRM (the Institute for Advertising and Media Statistics), and give a turnover for the sector for 2007 of SEK 1bn. According to some analysts, this figure could easily double within the next few years.
How much money do I donate by using Growyn to search? The amount generated by each user depends on how much and in what way Growyn is used. A normal user should generate a few dollars a month. Once we have a lot of users, this amount will eventually reach hundreds of thousands every month.
Where does the money go? The money raised from searches goes to the non-profit association, Growyn. The profits are then distributed to the various environmental projects that Growyn is involved in. Growyn supports several types of project, domestically and internationally. We are currently working with the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC) and Barnens Regnskog, two organisations that have been working actively to improve the environment for a long time, and both of which run exciting and valuable environmental projects.
For those of us at Growyn, it is essential that money is put to use where it is really needed. This is why we only support individual projects and not entire organisations. Growyn’s partnership contract puts stringent demands on donations being used in a productive and efficient manner, and on every project regularly reporting back to us on the ongoing work and results achieved. This information is then made public for users on Growyn.com.
Does anyone make money from Growyn? Growyn is a non-profit association that works in the same way as the Red Cross, the WWF and the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC). That way, there are no shareholders or investors looking for dividends.
How do you choose the projects? Growyn is assisted by independent environmental experts when choosing which projects to support. Our network encompasses experts in the fields of water, energy, environmental toxins and climate issues, and with solid experience from organisations such as the UN, EU and the Swedish government.
Why should I use Growyn? If you are interested in the environment and worried about the climate and other environmental threats, then there are several good reasons for you to use growyn.com to search the Net:
You donate financial support to important environmental projects – at no cost to you.
What differentiates Growyn from other search engines? Other than the fact that Growyn is the only search engine that donates all profits to environmental causes, the search function works just the same as Google, Yahoo or MSN.
How can I follow Growyn’s efforts? We will report on what is being done and how each individual project is developing on a regular basis on growyn.com. You will also be able to monitor how the profits are distributed, so it will be easy to see where the money goes.
