Animal Rescue, Conservation Education and Reforestation

In association with Rainsong Wildlife Sanctuary.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to preserve and protect our area of Costa Rica via conservation education, animal rescue and reforestation.

Our projects consist of:

Wildlife Rescue Centre
  • Wildlife sanctuary (28 acre property of secondary & primary forest near the National Park Reserva Cabo Blanco)
  • Conservation education in local schools and programs to promote community awareness
  • Reproduction for re-introduction of endangered or already extinct (in our area) species of birds and animals
  • Combating illicit pet trade and poaching in our area of Costa Rica
  • Promoting reforestation by providing rare and endangered hardwoods and native fruit trees; that is coupled with expert advice and hands-on help (including volunteers) to landscape natural forest environments, at minimal cost ($1 U.S. per tree)
  • Working together with other conservation entities in Costa Rica and abroad to acquire, restore, and/or create key properties with biological/wildlife corridors for the expansion of habitat available for the wildlife in our area.
  • Guided nature tours at low cost.
  • Creating networks with numerous biologists and universities around the world to expand knowledge about various animal species.
  • Maintenance of a nursery of rare medicinal plants and trees and promote the use of natural remedies made with native medicinal plants.
  • Rainsong's volunteer program draws over 200 volunteers from all over the world to Cabuya, Costa Rica, annually. This influx of ecotourism has positive economic and social impacts on our community.
  • The Animal Rescue Centre draws visitors from all corners of the globe.
  • Bringing close contact with the various animal species for which we care. In addition, visitors have a positive economic impact on the community (hotels, restaurants, service industries, transportation, etc.).
  • Conservation education is our focus for all aspects of our project. We gladly offer our advice to others striving to develop similar projects in Costa Rica and in other countries.
JUNGLE HABITAT

Rainsong's top priority project is the construction of an open-air jungle habitat on the sanctuary that will provide an area for the animals to live free in a natural forest area. The habitat will be home to kinkajous, capuchin and mantled howler monkeys, anteaters, pacas, deer and other non-carnivorous animals. The habitat will include native trees, shrubs and other plants as well as a feeding area and ropes for their recreational use. It will have a two meter fence to protect the animals from predators such as coyotes, wild cats, pizotes and boa constrictors. Many of the animals rescued are never able to return to the wild due to permanent injuries. Creating this jungle habitat will give them the opportunity to experience life very much like what they would in the wild.

Breathe Foundation is raising awareness and raising money to help cover the total cost for the habitat which is $10,000.
