"Founded by Emmy-winning producer Kevin Wall, in partnership with former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, Live Earth was built upon the belief that entertainment has the power to transcend social and cultural barriers to move the world community to action. A for-profit company, Live Earth seeks to leverage the power of entertainment through integrated events, media, and the live experience to ignite a global movement aimed at solving the most critical environmental issues of our time."
Live Earth site.
And that is exactly what it sets out to do. The flag ship of Live Earth is its globally televised concert. A carbon copy of Bob Geldof's Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8 concepts of raising awareness through music.
The first international concert went off on the 07/07/07 with 24 hours of music across 7 continents to highlight climate concerns were heralded as a huge success. The second concert due to occur in Mumbai was canceled out following the terrorist attacks before Christmas.
The site itself offers a number of very interesting features. Plenty of links, well updated news section focused on climate and eco features, a strong community section and a lot more.
Possibly the most interesting parts on the site is the Green Events Guideline section which gives organizers of virtually any event a suggestion pack to assist in reducing the carbon footprint of their event.
Also worth checking is the Live Earth Film series...
