The second annual Breathe Festival has kicked off successfully on Saturday, May 15th, 2010 in the lovely Bahian beach town of Itacare. The opening ceremony and dinner at the community centre Ponto de Traz started with a ecclectic performance of the Capoeira group Tribo do Porto giving the audience a taste of the Brazilian culture. The keynote speech was given by Joseph Schoninger, Founder of Beautiful Days and consultant to the Breathe Foundation, pointing out the social and humanitarian aspects of the environmental challenges ahead.

A freak overnight storm forced the organization to move the opening concert from the Corais square to the village centre and its vibrant streets. The entire community of Itacaré and people and attendants from all over the world gathered for the opening concert performed by Jamaram.  This reggae band from Germany immediately won the hearts of the audience in the streets who danced the night away at this wonderful celebration of coming together.

The festival`s program is continuing today with Billy the Artist painting the Crème Bowl at the local Tiririca beach. This skate bowl was built by the Breathe Foundation for the local children and youth and at the same time providing 40 skateboards and protection gear for them. 50 children from the locals schools will join Billy the Artist and paint the Créme Bowl together as part of the social program envolving the local school. Billy the Artist is a New York based pop artist who has done installations and live paintings in places such as Marcus Square in Venice, Italy. “ I have already had the best time of my life the past couple of days and painting in the bowl today with all the young kids excited to join, is such a cool experience.”

In the evening an art auction is held at the Gallerie 195 in Itacaré, with proceeds going to the local hospital that is part of the Breathe Foundation`s efforts in town.
