Backstage, Munich, Germany
On Saturday the 19th November gave us the chance to join and catch up with the group Jamaram backstage at Backstage in Munich as they went through sound checks, a dry run of the evenings set list and a shoot cut-aways as they prepared to shoot and produce the evenings sold out concert for their up coming Live DVD release.
The cooperation between Jamaram and the Breathe Foundation dates back several years culminating in the group donating their time as the International headlining act at the Breathe/Respira Brazil event in Itacaré in 2010. Infusing a multicultural Dub/Ska/Reggae fusion, Jamaram's eight man crew including trumpets, saxophone, percussion, drums, guitar, bass, synthesizer and vocals create an infectious, crowd pleasing, dance orientated vibe - a perfect match for samba crazy Brazilians and international visitors alike.
Highly regarded for their live act, the band set up, gigged and broke down no less than 7-times in the three days they were at the event, including an amazing free acoustic set in the remote town of Tremembé.
The band was first brought to the attention of the Breathe Foundation by documentary filmer, Mone Monsberger, with the track "Out my Window", which was filmed almost exclusively in Uganda while they were conducting music workshops for under privileged kids on a tour through Uganda and Kenya for the Goethe Institute, a German Cultural exchange Organization.
Jamaram, amongst other things, are famous for putting a donation box out into the crowd at all of the 140 gig's they do each year, using the money collected to build schools in the Townships of South Africa. Their participation will be as much to do with working with local kids and musicians as their opening performance itself.
The live concert on Saturday night to a sold out venue was one of the best yet from the band who continues it's work as conscious entertainers and raising money for projects world wide.
To see the live production of Saturday's concert and to take a look at some of the work that the band has put together over the last 12-years, including their work in South Africa, Uganda, Brazil and more, check their official website for details on the release of their Jamaram Live DVD and for upcoming tour dates.
