The question is not so much do we have the technology, scientific data, the systems, understanding of the problems or answers to effectively tackle pending and present issues, but more do we have the will to make the difficult decisions that required. In this project we call civilization, it seems that we have created a social apathy fostered by our present media, political, corporate and economic structures that places the results of your favourite sporting team, or the next issues of Sex in the City above real life issues lurking in the shadows. Human civilization has experimented with different kinds of social and political systems throughout history, one giving way to another over the centuries. There is no reason why the present system can’t or won’t be force to re-evaluate its systems. If the environmental effects we are starting to witness are the symptom, then the root problem can often be found in norms of the social systems presently in place. In the 21st century, we face the exciting challenge of doing a make over of our present civilization keeping the good and modifying that which is not sustainable.
