The Breathe Foundation does not confine itself to a specific field of expertise, rather works to identify and promote all individuals or organizations working on positive ideas, practical solutions and sustainable systems for a world gone mad. Our world can be broken down into three main areas:
Breathe Events challenge people to leave their regular surroundings and to re-immerse themselves with a isolated, vibrant, living, ecosystem. A chance to take direct action with organizations on the ground. A chance to stop for a second, take a deep breath, to interact and re-examine our place on the planet from a completely different perspective. Put simply, Breathe events offer a unique experience with like-minded people interested and working for change...
Breathe Documentaries and media output work in tandem with the events on the local level while creating a global communication platform presenting the invaluable work and initiatives by local organizations, while following international developments on a diverse range of issues and solutions.

Breathe/Respira Brazil, taking place over 10 days in Itacaré, Bahia, is packed with field trips, sports events, workshops, seminars, music & art, relaxation, wellness and participation in direct action projects. Ample time is set aside to immerse yourselves in the beauty of the region, experience the local people and traditions, while finding time to meet and network with likeminded international participants and experts. Breathe/Respira Brazil is a chance to examine local issues while discussing global challenges that face us all.Breathe is a chance to holistically assess how we interact with our planet.

Located approximately five hours South of Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, Itacaré sits in the Atlantic Rain-forest recognized by UNESCO as one of the five biodiversity hot-spots on the planet. Through logging, agriculture and population encroachment, it has been reduced to approximately 7% of it's original size. The remaining forest and the huge number of endemic fauna and flora species it supports is under continued threat from logging, poaching, multi-national farming companies and a growing local population. Added to this is a massive port development, Porto Não Sul, paid for by Indians to export minerals extracted from inner Bahia to China, that threatens to cut the sparsely remaining forest in two. Itacaré is a living example of the delicate management needed to address today's socio/ecological realities.

Breath fuses music, art, workshops, surfing, Capoeira, field trips, Candomble, wildlife reserves, reforestation projects, animal rescue centers, social programs, school visits, guest presenters, volleyball, documentary screenings and more published on a daily program. Workshops, held every second day, will focus on the following topics with key note speakers.
On top of the wide range of activities and field trips, Breathe/Respira Brazil has set it's self several direct action goals it wants to undertake. They are summed up as:
Mon 17th May | Ecology, Biology and the Environment |
|---|---|
Wed 19th May | Food Security, Nutrition and Sustainable Agriculture |
Fri 21st May | Technology, Alternative Energy and Manufacturing Processes |
Sat 22nd May | Water, Natural Resources and Exploitation |

(*** Tentative Program, dates subjected to change.)

Numerous organizations working in the area in the field of biology, health and education, eco-tourism, re-forestation, animal, species and habitat rescue, Carbon Neutral tourism, and social and sustainable programs. They include:

Breathe/Respira Brazil is open to anyone and everyone who is interested in knowledge, adventure, art, music, sport, ecology, sociology, technology, activism, politics, or the future of our planet. There is a published daily program of field trips, direct action projects, seminars, local cultural activities, sport, art, wellness and workshops that participants can join or chose to skip depending on the focus of your stay. The 10 day event is generally divided alternatively into activity days and workshop days each with a different theme and focus. The cost of participating in published Breathe events are generally covered int the Breathe Participation Package, however people who miss an organized Breathe activity can still arrange to book them privately at other times during the week. Every individual will define their own Breathe experience, choosing as much or as little on the program they want.

Breathe/Respira Brazil is an organic event where every individual determines their own experience by picking and choosing the activities they would like to be involved in or to take a moment to Breathe at their own pace. There are daily published Breathe activities where the cost to participate is in most cases covered by the Breathe Participation Fee, or people can choose to book privately at later times.
To join Breathe/Respira Brazil in Itacaré, simply follow the four steps below...

Our recommended travel and booking agent for the Breathe/Respira Brazil event is Tobis Travel Solutions who has extensive experience of travel to the Bahia. Brazil is big. Really big! The arrival destination is Salvador da Bahia, and there are direct flights from both Europe and North America. Tobis Travel Solutions can deal with any and all travel requests in English or German, they are also where you can make payment for the Breathe Participation Fee and Carbon Offset Fee. People are of course free to make their own travel plans, but Salvador da Bahia is your target destination.

One of the questions we get asked a lot is, "How can Breathe claim to promote ecology and sustainability and yet encourage people to travel to far off destinations." Once you have experienced Breathe you will understand, however, one of the major goals of Breathe/Respira Brazil is direct action projects. Part of that process is by making the choice to be responsible for our actions. We are requesting people to calculate and pay for their travel emissions through the locally based Sudden Rush Atlantic Rainforest Institute. All money received goes directly to reclaiming Atlantic Rainforest in and around Itacaré. For every 3.30 Euro, they preserve 1m² of forest for 100 years. (GO TO CARBON EMISSION CALCULATOR)

There is no point in re-inventing the wheel, so Breathe/Respira Brazil works with local organizations, individuals and independent activity organizers. It provides for Breathe/Respira Brazil organized activities and functions including:
